Spring Detox For A Spring Renewal
Spring is in the air! Well, kind of. Before we know it, we’ll be putting our winter coats away, driving with the windows down, and spending more time outside in the sunshine. The changing of the Seasons marks a time for all things to come alive and experience a Spring renewal.
When you think of ‘detox’ don’t just think of a juice cleanse for the body, I’m talking about a whole body and lifestyle detox.
Here are my Spring Detox tips:
1) Declutter your home
The act of getting rid of stuff that you no longer need in your home can actually make you feel lighter. Start by looking through your closets and get rid of clothes you don’t need anymore. Donate them to a charity of your choice. Talk about instant gratification! I also love to organize my pantry this time of year. Check the expiration dates on your foods. You would be surprised to see how many of your items have expired. Replace those canned goods with more fresh produce.
2) Start a meditation practice
Feeling like a scatter brains? Sometimes, transitioning into a new Season can feel really exciting so you want to stay zen. A daily meditation practice can get you feeling more focused and grounded. Find any place in your home to take a comfortable seat, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Start by doing a few minutes a day and work your way up to more time. There are so many apps nowadays that have guided meditations. My favorite meditation apps are: Headspace and Calm
3) Do Yoga
If you’ve been hibernating all winter like I have, practice these yoga poses for natural detoxification. A yoga practice can support the natural detoxification process by increasing circulation, compressing and twisting internal organs, and encouraging relaxation. Some of the best yoga sequences can be found online at Yoga Journal.
4) Try these foods
It’s time to gently cleanse and reset your digestive and immune systems. Instead of eliminating all the foods you’re used to eating during the winter months, try adding these in season foods to your meals. Some of my Spring favorites: Artichokes, Asparagus, Broccoli, Peas, Bell Peppers, Pineapples, Spinach, Strawberries, Mango, Apricots, Rhubarb, Cherries, and Lemon.
5) Water! Water! Water!
One of the most important items you need to cleanse the body is WATER. Do you know how much water you should be drinking a day? Well, the amount of water requirements varies among individuals based on age, sex, activity level, and even where you live. Don’t obsess about the amount you’re drinking but, listen to your body when you’re feeling dehydrated. If you’re concerned with how much to drink, go by this simple rule: take your body weight and divide it by two. The number you get is the amount of water in ounces you should be drinking daily.
